ANAHEIM, Calif. — Jonathan Toews and the Chicago Blackhawks dealt with Game 7 pressure in the same way they’ve handled just about everything during their incredible seven-year playoff run.Like champions. And after ending a remarkable Western Conference finals with a blowout victory, the Blackhawks get another chance to raise the Stanley Cup.Toews scored two goals in the opening minutes, Corey Crawford made 35 saves and Chicago roared into the Stanley Cup Finals with a 5-3 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on the night of May 30.Brandon Saad, Marian Hossa and Brent Seabrook also scored for the Blackhawks, who will play for their third NHL championship in six seasons when they face the Tampa Bay Lightning beginning June 3 in Florida. After six games of tense hockey in an extraordinary series, Game 7 was an incongruous rout. Toews was responsible for it, burnishing his reputation for big-game brilliance with a rebound goal just 2:23 in and another power-play score before 12 minutes elapsed.“There was no easy games,” Toews said. “There was nothing given to us. There was no moments in this series were there any lulls, where we felt Anaheim maybe didn’t play their best hockey and we got away with it. We felt like we had to earn everything against that team. That was an incredible test for both teams.”Anaheim lost a Game 7 at home for the third straight season. The Ducks blew a 3-2 series lead each time, compounding the heartbreak for a talented team that hasn’t developed the postseason poise possessed by Chicago and other champions.“We took another step this year, going a round farther, but ultimately that Game 7 we’ve got to be able to finish,” Ducks Captain Ryan Getzlaf said. “They played better than us tonight. I’m not telling you they are a better team than us. We didn’t do enough to win.”The Blackhawks led 4-0 before Ryan Kesler scored late in the second period for the Ducks. Corey Perry scored for Anaheim with 8:24 to play, but Seabrook scored on a power play shortly afterward.Patrick Kane had three assists for Chicago, which won three of the series’ final four games to seize another Western Conference title — although the Blackhawks refused to touch the Campbell Bowl during an awkward post-game ceremony punctuated by fans throwing orange towels on the ice.The Blackhawks have defied conventional NHL parity to reach three Stanley Cup Finals and five conference finals in a seven-year stretch under coach Joel Quenneville. That’s because their stars are unmatched: From Toews and Kane to Seabrook and Duncan Keith, nobody knows how to win like Chicago. The Blackhawks bounced back this season after their Game 7 loss to the Kings in last spring’s conference finals. Chicago outlasted Nashville and swept Minnesota this spring before outlasting Anaheim in the franchises’ first playoff meeting.“We’ve had some good accomplishments in here and some things to be proud of,” Kane said. “But at the same time, who knows if these opportunities are going to come around this often? We thought we were right there last year, but we didn’t get the job done, so it’s great to come back a year later and have that same opportunity and capitalize on it.”Keith had two assists while completing the series with a jaw-dropping 230 minutes, 48 seconds of ice time for a team largely relying on four defensemen.Brad Richards, who won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2004 with Tampa Bay, had two assists for Chicago while improving to 8-0 in Game 7s in his NHL career.Three days after Chicago staved off elimination with a 5-2 win at home, Toews somehow managed to top his last appearance at Honda Center. He tied Game 5 on May 25 with two electrifying goals in the final minutes before Anaheim won in overtime.“He’s an amazing hockey player,” Quenneville said of Toews. “He just seems to excel in big moments, big stages, and shows he’s as good a leader as in any sport.”Captain Serious showed how much he thought of Game 7 pressure when he scored just 2:23 in. Niklas Hjalmarsson’s long shot rebounded straight to Toews, who scored his fourth goal of the series when the Ducks inexplicably failed to mark him.Anaheim immediately showed tension in its game, perhaps remembering its three-goal first period deficit in a Game 7 loss to the Los Angeles Kings last spring. After Jakob Silfverberg took a hooking penalty midway through the period, Toews capitalized with a high shot through traffic, getting it through Saad’s screen in front.Frederik Andersen made 21 saves for the Ducks, giving up three goals on Chicago’s first seven shots. The collapse came abruptly for Anaheim, which went a record-tying 14 games into the postseason without a regulation defeat until losing the last two games by a combined 10-5.Matt Beleskey scored a power-play goal in the final minute for the Ducks, who finished one game shy of their first Stanley Cup Finals since 2007.“Last year was a tough loss, (and) this year was even worse,” Ducks forward Patrick Maroon said. “We’re one game away. We had them on the ropes. We’re going up 3-2 in their barn. You saw what happened there. Then we’re looking better because we have home-ice advantage and can play in front of our fans, and … I don’t know. I have no words.”(GREG BEACHAM, AP Hockey Writer) TweetPinShare0 Shares
NEW YORK — The Marlins got an impressive start from rookie Justin Nicolino and some timely hitting in the middle innings the night of Sept. 14.What they couldn’t do was stop the Mets from rallying for another win — though not many teams are doing that these days.David Wright had a go-ahead double in the seventh inning, Yoenis Cespedes homered again and New York won its eighth straight, 4-3 over Miami, who had won 9-of-12 coming in.“You just have to tip your hat to those guys because they’re swinging the bat hot right now,” Marlins catcher J.T. Realmuto said. “They’re getting clutch hits when they need it.”With two outs and runners on first and second, Wright hit a fastball from reliever Kyle Barraclough (2-1) to the deepest part of the park, well over the head of scrambling center fielder Christian Yelich, for a ground-rule double — scoring pinch-runner Eric Young Jr. and giving the Mets a 4-3 lead.Travis d’Arnaud also homered for New York. Cespedes connected for the ninth time in 13 games.“Right there, to d’Arnaud, I wanted that pitch back so bad,” said Nicolino, who allowed three runs over six innings. “It’s just one of those games that you take and keep learning from.”Hansel Robles (4-2) pitched a scoreless seventh for the win. Jeurys Familia was perfect in the ninth for his 41st save in 46 opportunities.Logan Verrett, making a spot in start in place of Matt Harvey, who was skipped in the rotation to limit his innings, pitched one-run ball for five.“You kind of know you’re going to come up with the clutch hitting, at least it feels that way,” Verrett said. “As long as we, as a pitching staff, can keep the team in the game I feel like we’re not going to lose anything.”Miami took a 3-1 lead in the top of the sixth with two-out RBI singles by Derek Dietrich and Realmuto off of reliever Sean Gilmartin.“You look up and down our lineup. Dee (Gordon) with two hits and a stolen base, same thing with Dietrich with an RBI and J.T., also two hits and an RBI,” Marlins interim Manager Dan Jennings said. “I’m very pleased with the way the lineup’s battling.”New York answered immediately in the bottom half. D’Arnaud followed a two-out double by Juan Uribe by sending a 1-1 pitch into the center field seats to tie the score 3-all.Named the NL Player of the Week earlier in the day, Cespedes continued his offensive onslaught in the third inning by sending a drive into the second deck in left to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. The mammoth shot, which traveled 442 feet, according to MLB Statcast, was Cespedes’ 35th of the season.Miguel Rojas had an RBI groundout in the fifth inning.(SCOTT ORGERA)TweetPinShare0 Shares
CARDIFF, Wales (AP) — Cristiano Ronaldo showcased his enduring lethal scoring qualities to ensure Real Madrid became the first Champions League holder to defend its title, netting twice in beating Juventus 4-1 on Saturday. In an exceptional career in which he keeps rewriting the record books, Ronaldo is the first player in the 25 seasons of the Champions League era to score in three finals. His first strike was canceled out by Mario Mandzukic’s exquisite hooked 27th-minute shot but it was the only high point for Juventus on a night when the Italian champion was outclassed in its quest for a first European title in 21 years.Casemiro restored the Spanish champion’s lead in the 61st, Ronaldo turned in his 600th career goal at the near post three minutes later, and Marco Asensio wrapped up a record-extending 12th title in the 90th.On one night in the Welsh capital, Juventus conceded more goals than it had on the journey to the final, having let in only three in the previous three games. But Madrid’s attacking brilliance proved just too hard for Juventus to contain as Zinedine Zidane won his second Champions League title in 18 months of top-flight management.Until now, no team since AC Milan in 1989 and 1990, when the cup was only a knockout competition, had won back-to-back titles.ROB HARRIS, AP Global Soccer WriterTweetPinShare22 Shares

MOSCOW (AP) — Hundreds of thousands of foreign men have flooded into Russia for the monthlong World Cup, setting off a fierce debate in the host nation about the roles and rights of women.Russian women who have dated the soccer fans have been shamed by some Russian commentators, denounced for allegedly undermining the country’s morals and gene pool. The widespread, vehement criticism has shown the dominance of patriarchal and sexist views in Russia, where the concept of gender equality is a generation behind that of the West’s.Still, the reaction against Russian women’s World Cup dalliances has been so strong that some feminists in Russia think it could actually advance their cause by shocking even conservative women who wouldn’t identify themselves as feminists.“Even those women (are saying) ‘Enough is enough, you’ve gone too far!” feminist writer Snezhana Gribatskaya said.A 27-year-old Moscow beautician named Mariam was one of those who fell for a foreign visitor, a Mexican soccer fan named Omar who asked her for directions to Red Square.“He was so kind and respectful to me,” she said. “It’s because of this that I fell in love with him.”She did not give her last name because she said the romance was a personal matter.Yet to many Russians, her actions seem disgraceful.“This is an era of sluts!” wrote Platon Besedin, a columnist for the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper. “Russian women are bringing shame to themselves and their country.”A popular forum on the VKontakte social media service has posted hundreds of videos of Russian women dancing and kissing foreign soccer fans, prompting vehement condemnations of those alleged to be “ruining the country’s gene pool.”In the first week of the global soccer tournament, Russian lawmaker Tamara Pletnyova warned Russian women against becoming romantically involved with foreigners, lest they should end up raising their children alone. She added it was even more of a problem if the men were from a different race. The next day, her colleague Mikhail Degtyaryov stepped forward to do damage control.“The more love stories we have connected to the world championship, the more people from different countries fall in love, the more children are born, the better,” Degtyaryov said.Burger King stumbled badly while trying to counter the censorious attitudes in Russia. It ended up being harshly criticized when it offered 3 million rubles ($48,000) and a lifetime of Whopper burgers to any Russian woman impregnated by a World Cup player. After the publication of Besedin’s column, the staff at Russia’s Cosmopolitan Magazine started a petition calling for its removal from the newspaper’s website. It has garnered over 53,000 signatures.“We were outraged by the fact that they decided they can actually control our sex life — who we kiss or go on dates with,” said Gribatskaya, who led the drive.Although some women have achieved powerful positions in Russia — including the widely respected central bank chief Elvira Nabiullina — their proportions at the top are much lower than in the West. That’s especially notable given that the Russian population is about 54 percent female, one of the world’s biggest gender imbalances.“In a country where the majority of the population are women, it’s crazy that there are no equal rights and that there is such a dangerous attitude toward women,” said feminist blogger Alena Popova.Gribatskaya traces the attitudes about women to the role of the Russian Orthodox Church in Russian society and the “traditional values” that have become government policy under President Vladimir Putin. Last year, Putin signed a law that decriminalized some forms of domestic violence.“I think now a great number of women are thinking ‘Who is this all for?’ and more and more are joining the fight for equality, for respect,” Gribatskaya said.Mariam, enamored of her Mexican beau, sees the World Cup as a wake-up call for Russia’s males, whose average life expectancy is only 66½ years and whose health is often affected by smoking and heavy drinking.“They had better make sure other girls aren’t scooped up,” she said. “(Foreigners) have a completely different attitude toward women. They are very well-mannered and cordial.”Yuri Dud, a prominent sports journalist, suggested that she has a point.“Foreigners are much more attractive than us … they keep themselves fit, they smell nice,” Dud wrote in a commentary declaring that Russian women should be able to sleep with whomever they want.A 30-year-old Russian woman named Yulia, sporting a bright yellow Brazilian soccer shirt, joked about the possible benefits to Russia of such cross-cultural alliances.“These men are definitely popular here — maybe in 18 years we’ll even have decent national football team!” she said, adding that she did not want her last name used out of privacy concerns.Omar has gone home, although Mariam said they stay in touch, and it remains to be seen whether the foreign suitors will live up to Russian women’s expectations in the long run.FIFA, soccer’s governing body, has acknowledged that sexism is a problem during the World Cup. It recently suggested a few remedies, including making sure that fewer attractive women at soccer stadiums are shown on TV broadcasts of the matches. One Russian feminist noted that even FIFA’s solution is sexist.“Publicly dividing women into attractive and unattractive ones is as bad as it can get,” Anna Fedorova wrote on Facebook. “In other words, if you are shown on television sitting in the stands, hooray! FIFA has judged you to be unattractive enough.”—By FRANCESCA EBEL , Associated PressTweetPinShare0 Shares
ATHENS (AP) — Yaya Toure is back with Olympiakos after a 12-year absence. The 35-year-old midfielder received a warm reception from Olympiakos fans at their Karaskaikis Stadium on Sunday. Perhaps inspired by Toure’s presence, Olympiakos thrashed Giannena 5-0 in the Greek league.Toure last played for Olympiakos in the 2005-06 season. He has been a free agent since leaving Premier League champions Manchester City in the summerHis return has excited Olympiakos fans with the team having just had its worst season in 23 years — third place after winning 20 league titles in 22 seasons.Olympiakos competes in this season’s Europa League after beating Burnley 4-2 on aggregate in the playoff round.Toure said he had “offers from lots of clubs” before choosing Olympiakos.“I cannot wait to help the club win the trophies the great fans of Olympiakos deserve,” Toure wrote on his website.Although no financial details were given, Greek sports website Sport24 said Toure will be paid 2.5 million euros ($2.9 million) for one season, plus 2 million euros as a signing bonus.—By DEMETRIS NELLAS , Associated PressTweetPinShare0 Shares
DENVER (AP) — After a sputtering start to their postseason, the Denver Nuggets are starting to look like the team that ended a six-year playoff drought in such dramatic fashion.Nikola Jokic has a lot to do with it.Jokic had 16 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists and fed Jamal Murray (23 points) repeatedly in Denver’s 108-90 romp of the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night.“Their chemistry is almost romantic,” Nuggets coach Michael Malone said. “They care about each other, they love each other. They play for each other. That’s when we’re at our best.”“I mean, we’re growing,” Jokic said. “We’re both really passionate about basketball. So when we have some good plays or whatever, we just want to express our feelings.”surprising second seed in the West, the Nuggets are up 3-2 and can advance to the second round for the first time in a decade with a win in Game 6 Thursday night in San Antonio, where they won last weekend for the first time since 2012.Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic (15) shoots over San Antonio Spurs center LaMarcus Aldridge (12) in the first half of Game 5 of an NBA basketball first round playoff series, Tuesday, April 23, 2019, in Denver. (AP Photo/David Zalubowski)Two weeks ago, Jokic overcame suffocating double teams to become the fourth player in NBA history to record a triple-double in his playoff debut and the first since LeBron James in 2006. But he scored just 10 points to go with 14 assists and 14 rebounds that night.Since then, he’s averaged 22 points, 11 boards and eight assists. Three times he’s come up a pair of assists shy of a triple double.“I mean, every great player is a challenge. And he can do a little bit of everything, and he does all of those things well,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “He’s the consummate team player who has great skills, but he’s also competitive, does a great job, has got a very high basketball IQ.”He’s having quite the coming out party on the national stage, too.“You hear everybody talk about these other players, rightfully so,” Denver coach Michael Malone said. “The league is filled with great players. What Nikola Jokic is doing in his playoff debut has not happened very often in the history of this game. Once again tonight 16, 11 and eight. I damn near ran him into the ground. Those 3s at the end of the quarter were huge.“He can impact the game in so many ways. I hope this playoff crowd, this national TV audience that people are tuning in and watching us and saying, ‘Man, this kid Nikola Jokic is real.’ We know it and it’s about time everyone else realizes it.”Murray’s 23 points led the Nuggets, who finally looked like the team that rolled through the regular season led by Jokic and backed up by the best bench in the league. The Nuggets led by as many as 30 points at 99-69, after which all of their starters took a seat.DeMar DeRozen and LaMarcus Aldridge each scored 17 for San Antonio, but Denver dominated this one almost from the tip.“They just outplayed us in every facet of the game,” Popovich said. They’ll need a similar effort in a closeout game at San Antonio. Asked what he could expect Thursday night, Jokic said, “the toughest game of our lives.”San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich prepares for Game 5 of an NBA basketball first round playoff series against the Denver Nuggets, Tuesday, April 23, 2019, in Denver. (AP Photo/David Zalubowski)FAST STARTThe Nuggets led 26-19 after one quarter. Denver had been outscored in the first quarter in all four games and by a total of 31 points, which didn’t sit well with Malone, who said before tipoff, “I think it’s important for us to win the first quarter, but not only to match the intensity and their aggressiveness, to exceed it. We have to come out with a hit-first mentality.”WITHER WHITESpurs point guard Derrick White was held in check again — he had 12 points after scoring eight Saturday night. He averaged 23 points in the first three games, including a career-best 36 in Game 3, before Malone inserted Torrey Craig into the starting lineup in place of Will Barton, which allowed Gary Harris to guard White.“I think our guys realized after the first three games Derrick White was the early MVP of this series,” Malone said. “And we’ve done a really good job in the last couple of games of trying to negate his impact. And that’s been a big part of our success in the last two.”Popovich said what he’s seen in White these last two games is “he’s basically a young kid who’s feeling his way. Playoffs are different than the regular season. And he’s growing and every night is an education, whether he plays poorly or whether he’s great. So, he’s a willing young man, going to have a great future. But he’s got to have this kind of experience. So, hopefully he’ll bounce back on Thursday.”TIP-INSDenver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic (15) is pressured by San Antonio Spurs center Jakob Poeltl (25) in the first half of Game 5 of an NBA basketball first-round playoff series Tuesday, April 23, 2019, in Denver. England defeated Colombia 4-3 via penalty shootout to set up a quarter-final against Sweden in FIFA World Cup 2018. It was an ill-tempered round of 16 match at Moscow’s Spartak Stadium with Colombia guilty of offensive behaviour prompting the referee to intervene multiple times. And it is one such intervention which proved to be rather costly for Colombia. Shortly after play resumed in the second half, Carlos Sanchez dragged Harry Kane and brought him down in the box. New Delhi, Jul 12 (PTI) Why should cricket controlling body of the country, the BCCI, be not answerable under the RTI Act in light of various judicial orders and a recent law commission report, the Central Information Commission has directed the sports body and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to explain.”It is the responsibility of the CIC to put an end to this prolonging uncertainty which makes the BCCI non-transparent and unaccountable without any moral backing and legal reasoning,” Information Commissioner Sridhar Acharyulu said. The matter came before him as Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports did not give a satisfactory response to an RTI applicant, Geeta Rani, who had sought to know the provisions and guidelines under which the BCCI has been representing India and selecting players for the country. The applicant also asked whether the players selected by BCCI are playing for India or for the association, how can a private association represent the country internationally, what is the benefit of the government in giving rights and authority to BCCI to represent the country in international tournaments among others, through the 12-pointer RTI application. The ministry claimed it has no information available and since BCCI has not been declared as public authority under the RTI Act, hence the RTI application could not be transferred to the BCCI.Under secretary in the ministry Arun Kumar Singh submitted during the hearing that the law commission calling BCCI as public authority is still under examination. After perusing records presented by the ministry, Acharyulu said it becomes important to hear whether the BCCI is answerable under the RTI Act.advertisement”Her question whether it is ‘a Team India’ or ‘Team BCCI’, raises an issue of exclusive authorisation of the BCCI to select team for India. In fact, this exclusiveness of authorisation created a monopoly in favour of federal body of sports for cricket called the BCCI and because of which all its wealth is created,” he said.Acharyulu said the Supreme Court and other high courts have expressed several times that the BCCI performs a public function and it is straight away related to public activity because of which the BCCI should be accountable to public in general and in public interest.”There have been several doubts raised by Ministry of Law and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, even after the recommendation of the law commission as to whether the BCCI do come under the purview of RTI Act,” he said. The commission thinks in public interest, in the interest of fair cricket and for fair process of selection of Indian cricket team members, the BCCI should be made transparent, accountable and answerable under the Right to Information Act, 2005, he said.”The commission directs the CPIO/authorised representative of the BCCI to explain why the commission should not declare the BCCI as public authority in view of various judicial pronouncements and the law commission’s recommendation in its 275th report,” he directed.Acharyulu also directed the sports ministry to provide its explanation on the issue. Bengaluru FC have announced their 30-man squad for the AFC Cup knock-out rounds which begins with them taking on Turkmenistan’s champions Altyn Asyr FK in the first leg of the inter-zone semi-final, at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on August 22.The squad, which returned from a two-week Spanish tour, regrouped at the Bengaluru Football Stadium on Friday ahead of their big game next week, a statement from the club said.”We have returned from a very satisfying pre-season tour of Spain and it all builds up to two important AFC Cup games we will be playing in the span of a week,” said Bengaluru head coach Carles Cuadrat who is set to take charge for the first time in a competitive fixture for the southern outfit.”The boys have done everything we asked of them over the last one month. Now it is about being competitive and giving our best shot in these games.”Bengaluru who clinched the South Zone title for the second successive season in a dramatic fashion are up against Group-D champions Altyn Asyr, who in a similar manner toppled last year’s runners-up FC Istiklol Dushanbe from Tajikistan to seal their berth in the knockouts.Miku, who netted a staggering twenty goals last season, was not named in the squads for the preliminary and play-off as well as the group stages of the competition, but is set to feature for Bengaluru FC on the continental stage for the first time.Joining him are Juanan Gonzalez and Erik Paartalu (Asian player) who have been the mainstay in the squad along with new signing Xisco Hernandez as the overseas players.advertisementWhile Dimas Delgado misses out due to an injury sustained in Spain, Cuadrat is hopeful Xisco will provide the flair in his absence. “A muscle injury meant we had to take the tough decision of leaving Dimas out. Xisco, who replaces him, has some good qualities and provides a good option for us. He has been working hard during the pre-season and has blended in quickly,” added Cuadrat.Keeping faith in youth, Cuadrat has also named thirteen boys from Bengaluru FC B — twelve of whom played in the 2nd Division League last season while six are graduates from the U18 side of the BFC Residential Academy.Four of those six featured for the club in the U18 Youth League last season as well, while the duo of Namgyal Bhutia and Naorem Roshan Singh plied their trade for Indian Arrows in the I-League on loan from the Blues before returning for the 2nd Division League campaign. The SquadGoalkeepers: Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Soram Poirei, Aditya PatraDefenders: Juanan Gonzalez, Rahul Bheke, Harmanjot Khabra, Sairuat Kima, Rino Anto, Nishu Kumar, Asheer Akhtar, Gursimrat Singh Gill, Biswa Darjee, Rakesh OramMidfielders: Xisco Hernandez, Erik Paartalu, Robinson Singh, Bidyananda Singh, Boithang Haokip, Kean Lewis, Altamash Sayed, Ajay Chhetri, Naorem Roshan Singh, Namgyal Bhutia, Lalengzama Vangchhia, Myron Mendes, Leon AugustineForwards: Sunil Chhetri, Thongkhosiem Haokip, Miku, Udanta Singh
HMD Global is expected to announce a brand new Nokia phone in Taiwan on Tuesday, April 2. The company sent out invites for a launch event where it is rumoured to announce the Nokia X71. Now, there seems to be some confusion whether the Nokia X71 will be named Nokia 8.1 Plus or Nokia 6.2, but for the sake of staying in line with most recent reports, we will be going with Nokia 8.1 Plus. The upcoming handset is expected to come with a punch-hole display, triple cameras and a Snapdragon 660 chipset based on new reports. The Nokia X71 aka Nokia 8.1 Plus was spotted on Geekbench last week, revealing that the mid-range smartphone will be powered by a Snapdragon 660 chipset. Additionally, the benchmark listing mentions 6GB of RAM and Android Pie software running inside what is expected to be an Android One smartphone. The upcoming Nokia phone is widely expected to be HMD’s first phone with a punch-hole display of around 6.22 inches. Past renders have suggested a hole in the display on the top left side to house a selfie camera. Interestingly, while past renders have suggested dual rear camera, newer reports now claim triple cameras for the Nokia X71 or Nokia 8.1 Plus. Nokia X71 sketch courtesy NokiaPowerUserNokiaPowerUser reported based on a “dependable” source that the Nokia X71 will come with triple rear cameras. As per the latest leak, the triple camera setup will include a 48MP primary camera, a 2MP secondary camera and a third camera with a 5MP sensor. The leak doesn’t specify the types of lenses being used, but we expect an ultra wide-angle lens to be part of the configuration. Notably, the leakster told NPU that the Nokia X71 will not be called Nokia 6.2, which once again leads us to believe it will be called Nokia 8.1 Plus.advertisementThe report by NPU backs the Geekbench listing when it comes to the Snapdragon 660 chipset paired with 6GB of RAM. However, the latest report claims the Nokia X71 will sport a 6.4-inch display rather than a 6.22-inch screen. This will come with a FHD+ resolution, which isn’t surprising. The handset is also said to house a 3,500mAh battery. If HMD Global indeed announces the Nokia X71 on April 2, we won’t have to wait too long to find out the official specs and design. We might have to wait a bit longer to know whether it will be called the Nokia 6.2 or Nokia 8.1 Plus.ALSO READ | Nokia X71 aka Nokia 8.1 Plus with 48MP camera to launch on April 2
Pune, Oct 26 (PTI) World bronze-medallist Gaurav Bidhuri (56kg) will be among the 360 boxers vying for top honours in the National Men’s Championship starting here Saturday which will be skipped by some top stars such as Amit Panghal and Vikas Krishan. More than 30 state teams and units will be in action at the event, where the Railways Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) will be the defending champions. Bidhuri will be competing for RSPB, which will also feature Commonwealth Games bronze-medallist Naman Tanwar (91kg). The youngster is a former world youth bronze-medallist. “It is a big comeback for me after missing out on big events in the last one year. I am going to make it count,” Bidhuri, who was upset at being denied a trial for both the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games, told PTI. Also there in the Railways team is Sachin Siwach (52g), a former world youth champion. The RSPB will be missing veteran Manoj Kumar (69kg), who got married earlier this month. Manoj was adjudged the best boxer of the tournament’s last edition. The Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) also features a fairly strong team which includes the likes of CWG silver-medallist Manish Kaushik (60kg), and CWG silver-medallist and this year’s Arjuna awardee Satish Kumar (+91kg) among others. Manish is the defending champion in his weight category and is expected to claim a second successive gold. The SSCB would be without Asiad gold-medallist Amit Panghal (49kg). Amit will get a direct entry into the national camp owing to his Asiad campaign.advertisement Former gold-medallist and last time’s silver-winner Shiva Thapa (60kg) too has decided to skip the tournament this time. He has been turning up for Assam in the past and won successive golds in 2015 and 2016. CWG gold-medallist Vikas Krishan (75kg) will not be in action for a third year running. He is busy pursuing his aspirations in the professional circuit and will be travelling to the USA for that. The semifinal and final bouts are scheduled for November 1 and 2 respectively. Shikhar Dhawan was sent back to the pavilion by Keemo Paul with his own wicket celebration on Monday as India took on West Indies at the Brabourne Staium in Mumbai. The West Indian bowled a quick delivery on back of length, which Dhawan tried pulling over the infield for a certain boundary. He failed though as the ball hurried onto him and he ended up hitting it straight to Kieran Powell standing at mid-wicket.India vs West Indies: Live UpdatesBut what happened after that left everyone surprised. Paul proceeded to celebrate by bringing his hands together as if he was cradling a baby. That would have been enough but he didn’t stop. He copied Dhawan’s signature ‘thigh-slap’ celebration to give the Indian opener a send-off.Dhawan though did not let the send-off faze him, an as ever had a smile on his face, evidentaly chosing to see the funny side of the incident. He walked back ruing his mistake of yet again getting out after a decent start. Also read – Dhawan-Rohit opening partnership now better than Tendulkar and SehwagDhawan had earlier explained the meaning behind his celebration. He had confessed that it was something he picked up watching kabaddi.”I started the Kabaddi-style celebration first in Australia when I took a catch to dismiss Shane Watson. I enjoy watching Kabaddi. It is very entertaining for me,” he had said on the show ‘Breakfast with Champions’.During the course of the innings on Monday, Dhawan along with his opening partner Rohit Sharma, became the second best opening pair in ODI history for India, after the duo surpassed Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag.advertisementTendulkar and Sehwag have scored 3919 runs from 93 innings and were involved in 12 hundred-run partnerships, since first opening the innings together back in 2002.Rohit and Dhawan came together as India openers during the 2013 Champions Trophy in England and have not looked back since. Rohit went on score three double hundreds while Dhawan has been the epitome of consistency. They have stitched up 13 hundred-run partnerships over the last five years. The record to break for Rohit and Dhawan is the 8227 runs scored by Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, who had opened together in 176 innings and were involved in 26 century partnerships.
Beijing, Nov 6 (AP) A city in southwestern China has banned dog walking during the daytime and banished the pets entirely from parks, shopping centers, sports facilities and other public spaces. The ordinance issued by the city of Wenshan in Yunnan province on Oct. 29 has been called the most restrictive in a nation where dog ownership has long been subject to tight regulations.Under communist China’s founder Mao Zedong, pet ownership was considered a bourgeois affection but it has revived over recent decades with Chinese being more affluent but having smaller families. Many cities, however, still maintain rules on what size dogs can live in what areas, with the capital Beijing banning large dogs from the city center. However, Wenshan’s ban appears to go well beyond that by saying dogs can only be outside before 7 a.m. and after 10 p.m.It also says dog leashes cannot be longer than 1 meter (3 feet) and dogs can only be walked by adults.(AP) AMSAMS
Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai speaking exclusively to India Today, made it clear that India’s plan will be to isolate Pakistan in world cricket and declare them as “the apartheid of cricket”.With the debate over whether India should play Pakistan in the World Cup raging, Rai argued that argued, “Why do we boycott Pakistan in World Cup when we have prepared four years for this tournament.””Its like shooting ourselves in the foot. Why damage Indian cricket because we don’t want to play Pakistan in World Cup,” CoA chief Vinod Rai told India Today. He said that India should try and isolate Pakistan and make other nations boycott them too.”We must try to isolate Pakistan from cricket community. That’s what we are trying to do. We want other ICC members to realise that terror emanates from Pakistan,” Rai told India Today.”Long term plan, we want to declare Pakistan as the apartheid of cricket,” said Rai.”Just the way SA at one point, no team was playing them. Similar plan we need to do with Pakistan where no team should play them,” he added.Vinod Rai also said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will raise this matter in the next International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting.”Will raise this point in ICC meet next week,” Rai said.India Today has learnt that BCCI CEO Rahul Johri left for Dubai at 8pm on Saturday night and will start informal dialogues with the member boards by Sunday evening.advertisementBCCI will first seek to align England with India because England is the World Cup hosting board. England also never travel to Pakistan for bilateral cricket and that’s what the BCCI will use. They feel if they get 2-3 boards on their side to express the same sentiment, the process to isolate Pakistan would have begun in earnest.Committee of Administrators (CoA) chairman Vinod Rai had a detailed chat with Johri and he has been instructed to flag this issue at every opportunity.Rai had earlier directed BCCI CEO Rahul Johri to write a letter to ICC to convey the BCCI’s message that the Indian board was against Pakistan’s participation in the tournament following the terror attacks in Pulwama last week, which killed 40 CRPF jawans. The BCCI had written a letter to the ICC on Friday in which it had expressed concerns over the safety of Indian players, support staff and the fans, among other points.
