first_imgErrigal Eagles players Conor McDermott, Aaron McLaughlin, Paul Gallen and Cian Baird with coaches Pat McDermott and Gerry Doherty meeting rugby legend Willie-John McBride at the recent tag festival at RavenhillThe Errigal Eagles tag rugby sessions are starting up again for the new season on Sunday 28th September from 1.00-2.00pm at Letterkenny RFC’s Dave Gallagher pitches at the Glebe, Letterkenny. The county-wide initiative, backed by Donegal Sports Partnership and Ulster Rugby, is aimed at anyone with an intellectual disability from the ages of 7 to 70 wishing to play tag rugby.Tag rugby is completely non-contact. Sessions are based around fun skill activities and active all inclusive games. Only formed in October 2013, the Errigal Eagles have made great strides in their inaugural season culminating in participation in a tag festival hosted at Ravenhill rugby grounds in June 2014.This season we plan to travel to compete in one of the tag rugby blitzes and to also host our own blitz tournament towards the end of the season.Players that have experienced tag rugby have thoroughly enjoyed it.We would encourage anyone with an interest to come along to our sessions, get active, have a bit of fun and see what it’s all about. No previous tag rugby or sporting experience is necessary. Parents and siblings of players are more than welcome to take an active role within the sessions. For any further information about the Eagles, queries or directions to the pitches please contact Colin on 0863863488 or Gerry on 0867355536.Errigal Eagles training takes place weekly from Sunday 28th September, 1.00-2.00pm at Letterkenny RFC’s grounds (by kind permission).Training will move to an indoor facility for the worst of the winter weather and hopefully back outdoors again in early spring 2015.This is a county-wide initiative and it is hoped that, if sufficient demand exists, sessions can be run in different areas within Donegal. All sessions are run by IRFU qualified coaches with disability awareness training. As with all clubs we need to recruit volunteers as well as players. If anyone is interested in assisting in the coaching, admin, PR or fundraising elements within the Errigal Eagles please contact Gerry or Colin on the numbers above. No rugby experience is necessary.
