Mayor’s Update: May 18, 2018

first_imgMayor Jay Gillian Dear Friends,Our rainy weather is expected to continue into the weekend, and the National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory in effect from 9 a.m. tonight until two in the morning. Our next high tide comes at 11:39 p.m., and forecasters predict minor tidal flooding. Heavy rain at the time of high tide could make conditions worse. I want to encourage everybody to err on the side of caution and move vehicles from streets that typically experience flooding well in advance of this late-night high tide. See our latest weather statement for more information. The rain this week came at a time when contractors across the island are pushing to complete concrete work, a precursor to many of the scheduled paving jobs. I want to thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we work to close out projects in advance of the season. One project that will continue into the summer will be the north end drainage project. Crews will complete work on the 500 block of West Avenue and on Fifth Street and Sixth Street while the adjacent Ocean City Primary School is out of session. Trenches on other streets in the project area will be restored for the summer, but final paving will not occur until after the season. The final paving of 34th Street from Bay Avenue to West Avenue was interrupted by the rain. Completion of the westbound lanes is now tentatively scheduled for Monday or Tuesday. Access to 34th Street Bridge from Bay Avenue will remain open at all times. The West 17th Street Bridge will be closed to all vehicle traffic from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday (May 22) as crews set the final section of the new bridge in place. Pedestrian access will remain open, but all residents should move vehicles to the other side of the bridge in advance of the bridge closing, if they will be needed during the day. Parking will be limited between Bay Avenue and the bridge on W. 17th Street.Today is the final day of National Police Week. I hope you’ll all take a moment to recognize the sacrifices and service of all our officers. We’re fortunate to have one of the finest departments in the region. We are hoping for good weather to finish out our road projects and get ready for the upcoming season.Warm regards,Jay A. Ex-Spurs boss Redknapp excited by Bale’s return

first_img Loading… read also:Bale expected in London today to seal Tottenham return While accepting the deal may be a difficult one to get over the line, Redknapp believes Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is the man for such difficult negotiations. He added: “The only way they’ll do a deal is if Real Madrid meet at least half his wages. I’d think that’s the stumbling block at the moment for Tottenham or anyone else interested in him. “It’s not going to be a case of Gareth taking any wage cuts, it’s going to be a case of Real Madrid having to maybe take a third of his wages off Tottenham. “Daniel Levy’s a very good negotiator, so I’m sure he’ll get the best deal for Tottenham.” FacebookTwitterWhatsAppEmail分享 Promoted Content8 Things That Will Happen If An Asteroid Hits Earth10 Of The Best Places Around The World To Go Stargazing10 Risky Jobs Some Women DoThe Best Cars Of All TimeBirds Enjoy Living In A Gallery Space Created For Them6 Incredibly Strange Facts About Hurricanes20 Facts That’ll Change Your Perception Of “The Big Bang Theory”Which Country Is The Most Romantic In The World?Best & Worst Celebrity Endorsed Games Ever Made10 Hyper-Realistic 3D Street Art By Odeith12 Movies That Almost Ended Their Stars’ CareersWho Earns More Than Ronaldo?center_img Former Tottenham boss, Harry Redknapp, is happy seeing Real Madrid attacker Gareth Bale returning to the club. Bale is believed to be closing in on a sensational loan return to White Hart Lane, seven years after he left for the La Liga giants. “It would be a fantastic signing for the club and it would be great for Gareth to get back playing again. He’s such a talent, such a great player and it’s waste to see him not playing,” Redknapp told BBC Radio Wales. “To get back to Tottenham could just turn their season around. They’ve been quite average in the last six months or so. End of last season and obviously got beat on Sunday by Everton. “They need that little bit of magic Gareth can bring. If he went there or Manchester United, wherever he went, he’d make a massive difference.”Advertisementlast_img read more
