Man rescued from trench in serious condition

first_imgPORTLAND — A Portland hospital nursing supervisor says a man rescued from a caved-in utility trench is listed in serious but stable condition in intensive care.The Oregonian reports that 21-year-old Danny Russu was replacing a sewer line with two other workers when dirt collapsed onto them about 11 a.m. Monday. The Apollo Drain & Rooter Service worker spent nearly three hours buried to his waist in the dirt and mud. Rescue workers from Tualatin and Portland responded, giving him oxygen and sports drinks until they were able to free him Monday afternoon.At Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, a nursing supervisor said Monday night that the young man was taken first to the emergency room, then later moved to the intensive care unit.The newspaper says the man was alert during the ordeal, but reported having trouble feeling his legs.The collapse happened in Cedar Hills in Washington County.last_img read more
